Dolls from the Child's Room
The dolls and toys in this room are primarily from the Victorian Period, 1837 - 1901. During this period, which coincided with industrialization, toys began to be mass produced and were available to more children. Several of the dolls pictured are china head dolls. The majority of china head dolls were produced between the 1830s and 1930s, although some were produced as early as the 1700s. They usually have a porcelain head and shoulders with holes to attach it to a cloth body. Sometimes the arms and/or legs were also porcelain. The dolls were made with hairstyles popular during the time period.
