Federal Bedroom
This room is decorated in the Federal Style, which was popular 1790 - 1820, the decades after American Revolution. A lot of the furniture and decoration focuses on warmth, which was important during the winter when fireplaces were the main source of heat. For example, the bed has heavy curtains that can be drawn to help keep in warmth. In the summer, this heavy fabric was often replaced with netting to help prevent mosquito bites as there were no window screens. The tapered legs and simple curved lines are also typical of the time period.
